Volcanic Eruption in Indonesia (Mount Anak Krakatau)
Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra, erupted on the 5 September 2026 local time, producing significant volcanic ash clouds and ongoing volcanic activity. The eruption has led to the closure of several airports, widespread flight cancellations and delays, and disruptions to transport services across parts of Indonesia. Authorities have advised people to avoid the area surrounding the volcano due to the risk of further eruptions and volcanic hazards. Travellers to or through affected areas may experience delays, cancellations, restricted access, accommodation disruptions and other travel impacts.
